Slate Roofing
It can be cut into different shapes and sizes to contribute to the architectural beauty of your home.
Slate can be obtained from a number of quarries around the world and its quality and lifespan will vary not only by region, but also by the layer of rock it comes from. As a result, Slate is grade-tested and has to measure up against the international standards of the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM).
The different grades of Slate relates to its lifespan and the overall consistency of thickness in each slab. S1 is considered to be the highest grade, while S4 is lower. A higher grade Slate has more precise physical requirements. Production increases in complexity and has an impact on the overall cost and availability of the product. Some regions that offer the highest graded Slate are located in the United States, in Virginia, Vermont and Pennsylvania.
